As we close our doors for the summer holidays, it’s the perfect moment to reflect on an extraordinary year at Woodford Primary School (WPS).

From academic achievements to unforgettable experiences, our pupils have truly made the most of every opportunity.

Here are just some of the highlights that defined our year!

Author Visit

We loved meeting author Sheena Garg who came to school to read her book, Myra Plays Holi!, to pupils. It helped our children understand more about Holi – the Hindu Festival of Colours. We even got to experience a splash of colour.

Eid Celebrations

We’ve enjoyed learning about Eid-al-Fitr, the Islamic holiday celebrating the end of Ramadan’s month of fasting.

Children recalled; “they only eat at night-time… they break their fast with a meal… wear special clothes to celebrate… stand on mats to pray.”

Food Bank Challenge

As part of our broader curriculum at Woodford Primary School, we held a Food Bank Challenge. The children learned about what food banks are and why they are important. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our school community as the donations piled up! Opportunities like these help to develop our pupils’ understanding of the wider world.

Sports Day

All the children showed great perseverance and energy at our recent Sports Day. Well done to Magnus for being the champions this year!

Bethan Woollvin read to us one of her inspiring books – Luna and the Sky Dragon. She shared with us how she’s got to where she is today. We finished off with a live drawing tutorial of both the sky dragon and main character Luna.

It has been another amazing year of highlights for our pupils and staff! From going on school trips to celebrating different cultures, it has been a brilliant year full of memorable moments.
